"Lost Echoes" is a virtual environment created using Unity, which allows visitors to experience the
Lascaux cave paintings in a unique way.

“Enter a virtual realm of ancient art and hidden mysteries as you navigate the echoes of the Lascaux cave paintings, facing choices that shape your path and revealing the secrets of the past”
#INTRO

Nowadays, we can easily observe historical artifacts and relics in numerous museums or on the internet. Through research on historical heritage, we can deeply understand human beings and how events in the past have shaped the world we live in today. However, have you ever wondered just how human interaction and natural events can impact the integrity of archaeological sites? Once historical heritage is damaged, it can never be restored, and we lose valuable information about past lifeways. Since the people of the past will never return to live their lives as they once did, the evidence they left behind in archaeological sites is priceless. How can we protect these values? What would be the best way to convey our perspectives and messages to the world?

My answer was, "Let's create a virtual environment where nature and historical artifacts disappear whenever they are interacted with by humans!"

[why “Lost Echoes”]

I used the word "echoes" in some of the title suggestions because it evokes the idea of sound that lingers on after the initial source has disappeared. Similarly, the cave paintings in Lascaux are echoes from the past that still resonate with us today, offering insights into the lives of our ancient ancestors.

By naming the title in “Lost Echoes”, I wanted to emphasize the fact that we are losing our echoes of the historical artifacts and archaeological sites.

#DESCRIPTION

"Lost Echoes," is the first in a series of virtual environments created using the game software "Unity," warning and criticizing human activity towards historical artifacts which are frequently damaged by humans.

As a lover of cave paintings, I have re-identified them as symbols of historical properties that have not been damaged by human interaction. My virtual world is simulated based on Lascaux, famous for its Paleolithic cave paintings.

The Lascaux cave paintings mostly depict animals in the surrounding landscape, such as horses, bison, mammoths, ibex, aurochs, deer, lions, bears, and wolves. The "Lost Echoes," displays these cave painting animals, but in different ways.

The animal paintings are illustrated as living creatures surrounded by trees and grasses, as if they were alive in the past. They walk, run, breathe, and eat like normal animals. The environments surrounding them are also different from the original "cave" image. They are filled with green nature that brightens itself, moisture, warm weather, abundant water from rivers, and a peaceful vibe.

The environment is designed to show th consequences of human interaction with historical artifacts, and how they can impact the integrity of archaeological sites. The game features a bright, green environment that turns dar and bleak if visitors touch or interact with the paintings, highlighting the importance of preserving historical artifacts.

#SYNOPSIS

Along the way, they encounter a treacherous crystal that tempts them to destroy the cave's treasures for personal gain. Through their choices and interactions, players learn the value of protecting the past and uncover the profound truth behind the echoes of time. 'Lost Echoes' offers a thought-provoking exploration of human interaction with historical artifacts and the enduring power of ancient art.

#STORYLINE
The game follows the story of a player who enters a mysterious land to find treasure. The playe picks up a treasure map and hears the sound of whispering, calling him to follow.
He meets a Huge Crystal who offers to help him find the treasure and become rich, but who also insists on following the player. Together they successfully find the portal and enter it. However, the Huge Crystal instructs the player to kill all the animals and destroy the objects in order to get the treasure.
The player follows these instructions until the last piece, which is a statue of a hand that represents a famous cave art piece in the Lascaux cave.
When the player interacts with the last piece, they receive a message that says "Please don't.. This is your last chance."

At this point, the player has two choices: to kill the statue or not.

# Ending1 (Bad ending): If the player kills the statue, the Huge Crystal appears and reveals that it tricked the player, causing the player to become stuck inside the cave forever.#Ending2 (Good ending): However, if the player chooses not to kill the statue, the Huge Crystal becomes angry and chases the player.

#Ending 1 (Bad ending)

#Ending 2 (Good ending)

Ending2 : The player runs away to the exit portal and enters an unknown place. This place is full of white color, as if it were heaven. The player meets a deer who tells the truth about the cave and the treasure related to Lascaux. The deer reveals the reality of how human interaction harms historical artifacts and ruins their value, which can never be fully recovered.

HOW I BUILT IT

Blender to create 3d models, Unity to set the environment, and C# code the interactions.

[moodboard]

Since the theme of my project is to show how damage the human interaction can be to our histiorical properties, I brought up the  Lascaux cave (famous for its Paleolithic cave paintings found in the Dordogne region of southwestern France) to re-identifies them as symbols of historical properties that have been damaged by human interaction.

I wanted have a glowing environment inside the cave so that the game features a bright, green lights that turn dark and bleak if visitors touch or interact with the paintings,l highlighting the importance of preserving historical artifacts.
