Concept
Lumina MR is an MR meditation simulation that allows individuals to relax by transforming their ceiling into a garden!
Your presence provides the energy for the flowers to grow, and you can harvest a variety of seeds to plant up to six different types of stunning blooms. Relax, nurture, and watch your garden flourish above you.
Player can combine seeds and toss them onto the ceiling with their hand and their presence accelerates the growth of the garden and even allows them to harvest the seeds.
Element
In Lumina MR, your presence fosters an immersive virtual garden on your ceiling, composed of 3 main elements: Seeds, Islands, and Plants.
Grab & Combine—> Customize seeds
Plant —>Throw seeds to the celling and create islands and plants
Harvest—> seeds from fully grown plants
Observe & Replant—> seeds from fully grown plants
Building Mode vs Gazing Mode
Building mode is enabled when player build the garden by interacting with seeds
Grab Seeds
Throw seeds
Plant seeds
Gazing mode is enabled when the player pauses to observe the garden and plants grow faster in this mode.
Accelerated plants growth
Immersive lighting and effects
Goal
MR mass adoption can only be accelerated through high retention, but Quest applications often optimize for novelty and one-time download fees.
Applications like Mindway, Tripp, and Supernatural VR are attracting a large user base with annual subscription models, proving that focusing on lifestyle interactions significantly boosts adoption rates. In this project, we aim to address the need for recurring engagement by encouraging users to return regularly to care for and customize their plants, fostering a deeper connection with the experience.
How Built
Lumina MR is built with Unity (version 2022.3.22f1), leveraging some of Meta Presence Platform’s Mixed Reality capabilities:
Passthrough
Besides using passthrough to allow the player to see their world, we're using Color Look-Up Tables (LUTs) to stylize passthrough to communicate our two game states: Building and Gazing.Spatial Anchors
We're using (locally stored) Spatial Anchors to maintain Islands and Plants positions, and ensure the garden's consistency between sessions.Scene
We're using Scene understanding capabilities alongside the Mixed Reality Utility Kit toolset to identify valid spawn points for the Plants in the player's room ceiling.Depth
We're using depth occlusion for an increased immersion effect.
